Everyday Mischief

Tholpaavakoothu is a traditional ritualistic theatrical art form which originated in Kerala in parts of Palakkad and played in over 150 temples all over Kerala. This theatrical art uses a screen, with lamps lit behind it and puppets placed in between, to create beautiful and colourful shadows. The whole play is brought out by moving the different puppets behind the screen, to create mesmerizing effects for the audience. The puppets are made of deer skin.


I was eager to see it as I had heard a lot about it from my friends and I had never seen it before. My only knowledge about it was from the brief scenes shown in movies. To see it for real is an overwhelming experience.
